North East Harrier League Cross Country Series 2011-2012

CROSS COUNTRY SEASON 2011 -2012

Start Fitness - North East Harrier League

------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Poly compete in the North East Harrier League. Our teams need as many runners to come forward as possible to present a strong effort in all competitions. It is also well worth attending for the great team atmosphere that is generated. The xc events are also very well supported by a number of our top coaches.

Our senior men’s team compete in Division 1 and finished 7th last year after a topsy turvy season which saw us flirting with relegation until the final 2 events, and in particular finishing with a great result in the classic race at Prudhoe in March .

Our ladies have been consistent performers finishing in the top 5 regularly over the last few seasons finishing 4th overall last year. They have achieved this with a handful of regulars and really need further runners to press on further . This year sees a change in the league structure for ladies so that there are now 2 divisions with our girls in Div 1. So they will need to be on the toes for this as the league will make matters more competitive.

There are also events for all juniors and we had some great individual performances during the 2010/11 season with many of our juniors finishing the end of the season in the top 10 of the individual league. There has been a large turnout for these events from other Clubs as well in recent years.

The format of the Harrier League works on the basis of  streaming in the case of the men, runners who finish in the top 30 being allocated to a medium and (thereafter for a top 20 finish ) into the fast group.

The streaming means that medium and fast people are handicapped by a delayed start to the race.

Scoring points is easy: the first 6 runners home will score for the Club the exact total is dependant on the position you finish the race in relative to other competitors from other Clubs competing in our league. However it is just as important to field as many runners as possible as even non scoring athletes can ‘knock back’ the position held by rival clubs.

So, get your race number from Ian Woodward (there is a list on the notice board so add your name to the list if it isn’t already there) and get along and enjoy the fun.
