Sadly only 15 young athletes turned up for the YAL meeting at Shildon on
Sunday 20 May. Consequently the team finished in 4th place with only South
Shields below us (they only had 7 athletes). However there were some good
performances.
Matthew Sinclair won the track male athlete of the match for his sprint double
performances winning the u/13 100 metres in 14.3 and the 200 in 29.9. Jack
Young won the B u/13 200 metres in 32.1.
Hayley Robertson was 2nd in the under 17 long jump. Sophie Waller 4th in
the A and Kay Brannon 2nd in the B of the under 15 long jump.
Daniel Adamson ran 2 personal bests 12.6 to finish 3rd in the under 17 100
metres and 25.5 to finish 2nd in the 200 metres
Grace Johnson won the under 17 200 metres and 300 metres with times of
28.2 and 47.3
John Rutherford won the under 15 boys shot Laura Mole ran 11.5 to finish
4th in the under 13's 75 metres
It was in the female high jump where the Poly scored best with Laura Mole
(1.05m) finishing 2nd in the under 13 competition. In the under 15 Sophie
Waller (1.30m) won the A string with Charlotte Scott (1.20m) winning the B
string. In the under 17 competition Grace Johnson (1.55m) won the A string
and Hayley Robertson (1.35m) won the B string.
The next meeting is on Sunday 03 June at The Riverside in Chester-le-Street
where it is hoped the Poly will have a stronger team out.

Junior athletes from NSP have been in early season action at two recent open
meetings.
At Shildon on Sunday 15 April Grace Johnson led the way,in fine conditions,
with a personal best clearance of 1.60m to win the under 17 ladies High Jump.
Hayley Robertson was also in action placing 5th in the under 17 ladies long jump
with a jump of 4.55 metres. In the senior 100 metres Daniel Robinson ran 11.9
seconds to progress to the final where he finished 5th in 11.7 seconds, a legal
personal best.
The following weekend in blustery conditions at Gateshead, Grace Johnson jumped
1.60m again to win the ladies under 17 high jump. Hayley Robertson jumped 4.58
metres to finish 5th in the long jump. In the under 20 mens 100 metres Max Mullins
ran 11.9 to finish 3rd, one place ahead of Daniel Robinson who ran 12.1 seconds.
In the under 20 mens 200 metres Daniel finished 2nd in 24.5 seconds.
