There was some confusion at Tuesday night's GP5, here are Phil's
comments:
Some problems happened last night. 2 runners started at the wrong time,
86 were recorded as starting, 87 were timed as finishing, 86 were recorded as
finishing, 1 runner started and did not finish - I think that when I passed him
he thought a swim in the North Sea a better option! 1 runner started without
a number and 2 runners finished without a number.
Please ask your friends, if you have any, and anyone else who does the GP
to please try to make life simpler for our volunteer helpers. It is not much
fun standing for about 45 minutes starting runners off and then recording
the finishers on a dark, cold wintry night.

Sunday 6th January 2008 saw a good turnout for the Run for Bob event,
the weather was good and not too cold. From the chat in the clubhouse
after the run everyone appeared to have once again had a good time.
There was even some cake left for those of us that came in at the tail
end of the field :-)

The National Young Athletes League match on the 25th June 2006 was held at Whitley Bay. The weather could have been kinder for the athletes but it seems all competitors had a good day. The event was won by Border followed by Team North Cumbria, Gateshead 'B' , North Shields Poly and South Shields.
Congratulations to Grace Johnson (U15 High jump) and Gina Rutherford (U17 800m) both awarded Athletes of the Match for ranking first place in the female track & field sections.

Congratulations to Tommy Brannon, Martin Frost, Iain Twaddle and Rob Walker for finishing in 2nd place in the mens over 35 relay in Sutton Park 20th May 2006 in the 19th National Open Masters Road Relay Championships.
Thanks to Ian Richardson's organisation (and some arm twisting) the Poly entered five teams, Women over 35, Men over 35, Men over 40, Men over 50 and Men over 60.
The course is not an easy one, involving some uphill sections in it's 3 mile loop and the weather on the day was a mixture of sunshine, rain and wind.
Our Poly runners all competed well in their individual legs against some very good club runners from around Britain and all appeared to enjoy the event. The highlight of the day being the excellent 2nd place for the mens over 35 team which lifted all our spirits.
