The Mayday Bank Holiday ushered in another great weekend for the Poly ‘s fell runners. Eight members took part in the brutal Cheviot Hedgehope Pendulum Fell race, the third counter in our championship. Scott scored his second victory of the season and finished 5th overall in the race. Chris Rowe was the second Poly runner and eighth in the race thereby taking an early lead in the “best runner up” category. Close behind and marking a welcome return to form, was Gary Robson who gave us our third runner in the race top ten. Next home was Graham Lewis Dale who pipped Jon Heaney by a mere two seconds. Last Poly man, but still in the top half of the field, was Richard Hanley on his championship debut for this year. For the ladies, Rachel Carr scored a maximum 50 ponts in her first race of the season. Rachel Inman was in next and made up valuable ground on absent series leaders, Katherine and Lisa.

So after three races Scott leads the men with 146 points closely followed by Chris Rowe on 143 with the rapidly improving Graham Lewis-Dale on 135. Katherine Davis leads the ladies on 100, followed by Lisa Henderson on 96 and Rachel Inman on 95
However, the Cheviots weren’t the only place that the Poly were active. The strength of section is such that we also had four Polyfellers, Mark Smith, Lisa Henderson, Chris Oliphant and Katherine Davis, in that classic fell event, The Yorkshire Three Peaks Race.
The next race in the series takes us over the Peninnes for the Fairfield Horseshoe Fell race on Saturday 14th May. http://www.fellrunner.org.uk/races.php?id=4493 This is slightly longer than the Coledale race but a lot more runnable. Once again full waterproof kit must be carried.
