Junior Team Winners on Home Soil

A massive well done to all the Juniors who competed in the North East Youth Development League (NEYDL) at Churchill on Sunday 29th June. I was again very pleased with the number of athletes that turned up to compete. We had a 31 strong team which is the biggest team I’ve managed to date! It was also great to see athletes competing for the very first time for the club and seeing familiar faces back competing again after the previous meetings. This competition is great to meet new friends from other training groups and from other clubs and I hope you all enjoyed yourselves and want to come back for the last remaining meeting.

Our team finished 1st on the day with a  points total of 536, we were 141 points clear of 2nd and even better news is that Gateshead have gone down to 4th place! This means we are in an excellent position to challenge promotion – our main rival will be our friends from Gateshead as they have 15 league points to our 14! Therefore we need one final push for the last meeting of the season at Monkton on 20th July. The sign up sheet will be up in the clubhouse on Tuesday and Thursday so I want as many people to sign up as possible to represent your club and gain competition experience. We were especially short of U15B last time but all age groups and I will find you something to do.

Now our focus needs to move onto the next and final meeting of this season – with a 4th, 2nd and 1st place finishes in the last 3 meetings we are progressively improving each time. We need to pull out all the stops for this last meeting so we can achieve the highest placed finish we possibly can – we could even be in with a shout of promotion which hasn’t been the case for a good 8 years! The last meeting is back at Monkton which I hope a lot of you will be able to make. Like last time we were desperately short on U15B, U17M and U17W so if we can build on this hopefully we’ll be able to score a lot of points that we have previously been missing out on due to lack of numbers.

This is the best position we’ve been in for a long time so lets not give this up without a fight – GAME ON!!

The next fixture is at Monkton Stadium on Sunday 20th July. The more events each athlete covers, is not only great for your athletics development, it makes for a stronger team performance. Remember you can do a maximum of 3 events and a relay.

A signing up sheet will be put on the notice board on Tuesday 8th July. Please add your names and preferred events if you can definitely attend so I can sort out the team. I will take the signing up sheet down on Thursday 10th July and put the Team Sheet up on Tuesday 15th July.

Thank you once again and I look forward to seeing you next time. Any questions, please contact
