NEYDL at Gateshead on 1st June 2014

A huge thank you to everyone who took part in the NEYDL on 1st June at Gateshead. I was very pleased but also surprised with the number of athletes we had competing especially as it was half term – we had a 29 strong team which was great to see!

It was also great to see athletes competing for the very first time for the club and seeing familiar faces back competing again after the first meeting at Monkton. This competition is great to meet new friends from other training groups and from other clubs and I hope you all enjoyed yourselves and want to come back for the remaining fixtures.

We finished in a very healthy 2nd position with total points of 478 points – 62 more points than last time! We were 35 points ahead of 3rd place but Gateshead were away and clear in 1st place 185 points ahead of us. However considering we finished 4th overall at the last meeting and we’ve increased our total points total this is an excellent result for us as a club and our best league position since before I started competing in this league – so a good 8 years. The next fixture is our home leg at Churchill so that should give us a home advantage over the other clubs. A good target for us would be to score over 500 points, but to do this we need more U15B, U17M and U17W so that we’re not losing out on too many points.

The next fixture is here at Churchill on Sunday 29th June. The more events each athlete covers, is not only great for your athletics development, it makes for a stronger team performance. Remember you can do a maximum of 3 events and a relay.

A signing up sheet will be put on the notice board on Tuesday 10th June. Please add your names and preferred events if you can definitely attend so I can sort out the team. I will take the signing up sheet down on Thursday 19th June and out the Team Sheet up on Tuesday 24th June.

Thank you once again and I look forward to seeing you next time. Any questions, please contact me.
