A huge thank you to everyone who took part in the NEYDL on 27th April at Monkton. Without exception, it was a brilliant performance by all our young athletes in a very competitive league and in weather conditions that were not ideal.

It was great to see athletes competing for the very first time for the club and others trying new events. This competition is great to meet new friends from other training groups and from other clubs and I hope you all enjoyed yourselves and want to come back for the remaining fixtures.

We finished 4th in a very strong competition with total points of 416. This is over 30 points better than the team produced last year and proves the team is getting much stronger. We were 32 points behind 3rd place and less than 80 points off 1st place. It is looking like a battle of the top 4 clubs and we can become stronger as the season progresses. We especially need U17 Girls and U15 / U17 Boys and the desire is to have enough athletes in all categories to stay for the relays at the end. We only contested 1 out of 6 relays and we won that one.

The next fixture is at Gateshead Stadium on Sunday 1st June. If you have not competed at an International Stadium, this is your chance with great facilities. The more events each athlete covers, is not only great for your athletics development, it makes for a stronger team performance. Remember you can do a maximum of 3 events and a relay.

A signing up sheet will be put on the notice board on Tuesday 13th May. Please add your names and preferred events if you can definitely attend so I can sort out the team.

Thank you once again and I look forward to seeing you at Gateshead. Any questions, please contact me: laura.mole@btinternet.com
